Who is she? & why should you vote for her

Carrie-Ann started her role as the manager in the Digital Media Zone in May 2011. Prior to that she was the special assistant in the office of the president at Ryerson University from 2006-2011, where she was instrumental in the success of many initiatives and projects such as the prestigious honorary doctorate celebrations. Her previous positions are an eclectic mix of roles including a role with the office of undergraduate admissions and recruitment at Ryerson; at CJWL as one of the first on-air personalities for a community radio station; at Jeunesse en Marche as a rock climbing & kayak instructor, as well as assisting in studio at an audio production centre. Adding to her varied background, Carrie-Ann has also been a monthly columnist, tackling the social issues adolescents faced in her small Northern Ontario community; is a former registered athlete [bodybuilding] and her latest humanitarian efforts were felt in early 2011 at an orphanage and school in Honduras.

Always a mentor, Carrie-Ann prides herself in participating in things that make a difference in the lives of young leaders. She works as an educationalist, mentor and workshop facilitator for la FESFO [Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne], a French-Canadian organization which, among other things, hosts leadership development training and workshops for franco-ontarian youth. It is considered one of the most important incubators of leaders for the Franco-Ontarian community.

Carrie-Ann holds a B.A. from Ryerson’s Faculty of Communication and Design in Radio & Television Arts, and an M.A. in Communication & Culture studying the diffusion of technology. Her studies and expertise with the actor-network theory translates itself to the way in which she approaches any task – a concept that aims to enhance the ability of an organism with technology, by piecing together fragmented elements to create a network. This is her fundamental way of looking at change management and a perfect match for the DMZ. Carrie-Ann’s unique skill set in designing and establishing strong systems and operationalizing concepts in response to dynamic needs efficiently and effectively is what she brings to the Zone. Getting to the heart of a situation and implementing an effective solution are some of her key attributes – which is probably why her colleagues refer to her as the ‘Infrastructure Architect’.

When she isn’t performing as an instrument of change, you will find her playing beach volleyball, surfing on the west coast or participating in sports. She enjoys time with her enormous family and close friends – a perfect weekend is spent riding a motorcycle alongside her husband. Carrie-Ann has set aside time to work towards an MBA specializing in the Management of Technology & Innovation.

As paradigms shift, Carrie-Ann will be advocating.

*I started working under Carrie-Ann as a Student Ambassador for the Ryerson Undergraduate Admissions Office. This was almost 6 years ago and I have yet to work under someone with a comparable set of management skills. Carrie-Ann was a pleasure to work for and she made the entire team look forward to every event! Her passion for what she does clearly extends beyond the scope of an 'employee'. Over the years Carrie-Ann has changed from a supervisor to a friend and a mentor. I am grateful for everything she has taught me and helped me with. She is an asset to any organization!*
